Home – Anthony Calacino, Ph.D.

Welcome/bem-vindo/bienvenidos! I am a political scientist and I study the political economy of pollution and environmental degradation, as well as public opinion on climate change. Most of my research focuses on Brazil, and other Latin American countries.

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Oxford Department of Politics and International Relations, as well as a fellow at Nuffield College. I work on the Climate Vulnerability Project led by Professor Federica Genovese.

In December 2023, I received my Ph.D. in Government from the University of Texas at Austin. From March to December 2022, I was a Fulbright Award recipient to Brazil, where I did expert interviews and other fieldwork for my dissertation in Brasília and the Amazon basin.

Before Academia:

Before graduate school, I studied political science and mathematics for my undergraduate degree. I also worked for a medical non-profit throughout Latin America. When not teaching, writing, or doing fieldwork, I like to run, hike, and ski.

Other Bits:

What I’m reading (outside of poli sci): “Life as No One Knows it” – Sara Imari Walker (Aug ’24)
